Family Support

Seeing a family member succumb it Dementia can be very confronting. Quite often the grief of watching a loved one’s condition change, makes it even harder to choose a facility that can provide the type of personalised care and support they need. We are here to help.

At Holloway, we embrace residents with dementia, working with families to educate and guide them through all stages: from early stages through to advanced stage dementia. It can be difficult finding a facility that is equipped to deal with the complexities of dementia and palliative care. While many facilities will show a preference towards non-dementia residents, Holloways commitment to inclusivity ensures families can get the care they need, without any judgement.

We understand that dementia will present differently in every person, and we adapt our approach on a case-by-case basis, as needs change. We have invested in the ongoing training of our dementia care teams, to provide the highest standard of care and best quality of life to our residents. This allows us to manage challenges as they arise, giving families the confidence to know that their loved ones are getting the best possible care available.

By taking over the responsibility of care for dementia from families, we provide them the means to strengthen their relationships and enjoy each-others company again.

Support from Dementia Australia

We work with Dementia Australia to develop strategies for individual residents. In addition to providing advice, resident assessments and support to Holloway, Dementia Australia also works with us to facilitate family meetings and provide support and counselling when needed.

Geriatricians

A geriatrician is a doctor with specialist training in caring for people aged 65 and older. In addition to working with residents directly when needed (eg to tweak medication regimens), they also provide our teams with education and support to ensure we are able to deliver the highest standard of care.

General Practitioners and Allied Health Professionals

Having access to a network of GP’s and allied health professionals who provide services in-house is very convenient to busy families. Some families will prefer to continue using their family GP or specialist, and we will accommodate to those specific requirements when needed. However, it's comforting to know that these services are available as it reduces the need to take residents out for appointments.

Family Support

We always work with families and get them involved in decision making. This helps families understand what we are doing, what we are trying to achieve, and how decisions impact the quality of life for our residents.
